We are officially in the ‘ber’ months now and that means it is time to switch some things up in the house as well as a mini refresh.
I don’t completely redecorate our home for every season and holiday, but I do like to put out a few things to mark the change as well as look at what needs to be cleaned. September is when I begin. The very first thing I do is wash the comforter and pillow shams and flip them to the fall side. We have a reversible comforter on the master bed; one side is a quilt pattern perfect for spring and summer and the other side is a pretty dark burnt orange shade that I use until Winter when the heavy comforter comes out. Once the bed is arranged I move on to my makeup bag.
The makeup I wear is a little different depending on the weather. In the hot summer I use a tinted sunscreen, bronzer and the lighter weight makeup. Come the winter I like lipstick, setting powder and a fuller overall look. I empty my makeup bag and replace the summer items with winter items. It’s also the time of year that I clean my makeup brushes and throw any out that are too old, unused or as was the case this year, cracked. I have used special cleansers before made specifically for makeup brushes but the truth is nothing cleans them as well as Dawn dish liquid in hot water; leaves them clean as new!

Finally, I take the summer wreath from the front door and replace it with my late summer/fall wreath and voila! I am ready for the transition to sweaters, berry colored lipstick and fall decor. These little changes keep me in step with the seasons and create habits for cleaning items in the house that often get overlooked (makeup brushes.) What rituals do you keep as we transition from summer to fall? I’d love to hear in the comments below.
