Celebrating Mom

What an exciting week it’s been since my last post. Over the weekend we celebrated my mother’s 67th birthday and just this morning my new niece was born! It looks like next year we get to celebrate two July birthdays!

We hosted my mother’s party at our home, and I made a lemon blueberry sheet cake to serve with vanilla ice cream. The recipe is from Southern Living and everyone liked it. I came to this conclusion because almost everyone went back for seconds! In the heat of summer I always like to serve a lighter cake flavored with fruit. It wasn’t the most showy cake I’ve ever made, it is a sheet cake after all, but the bright lemon flavor and sweetness of the blueberry frosting made up for any lack in visuals.

I think my next gift to myself will be a stand mixer! I got quite the arm workout.

I loved using my new Pioneer Woman batter bowl set to make this cake. I was in need of a new batter bowl and this was perfect for the job. It even comes with silicone cupcake liners. Highly recommend!

Before the guests arrived I collected a few blooms from the gardens for a tiny little bouquet. This time of year the flowers are mostly spent but I filled it in with some sweet smelling lavender and it was perfect to brighten up the gift table.

After the party I caught him sneaking some of the extra frosting.

I need to make a note to always get a group photo when we have a get together. One of the challenges of hosting is remembering to do everything I set out to do in the few short hours I have everyone all in one spot! But all in all a great time was had and memories were made. I hope you enjoyed seeing a few photos from the party and if you make the cake let me know how you liked it!
